I tend to agree with your assessment that someone's philosophy is affected by their temperament. I saw a brief video on Gnostics... the amount of detail they have in their cosmology/theogony is impressive, but I'm like you... who would want to believe in their dismal outlook?
But then I look around the world today and see plenty of people who seem to make a deliberate attempt to be miserable.
That begs the question, then, what causes the type of temperament that embraces Gnosticism? And then I think back to JMG's World Full of Gods and the idea that Gods impress the Divine Sparks that they are simpatico with. And maybe there are Divine Sparks who are simpatico with Yaldabaoth and those Divine Sparks end up being Gnostics when they are incarnated.
Not me, though.
I look forward to reading Aristotle's views on things. :-)
