Dear Steve, Thank you for this post, it is timely and so beautiful along with the ease and flow. I can visualise much of what you have written. I have read much written by Ralph Waldo Emerson, and a little from some of the writers and poets you have mentioned. I found the writings inspiring and this opened me up in the most surprising, yet expected way. Now, this can be deleted, if inappropriate: I have a small garden of weeds and winter grasses; with the rains it grew taller over the past month since I moved in. I began visualising how I would like this patch to be. After reading every passage, I then sat outside. I had accepted the weeds because they hold the soil together and nurture the sandy soil. Planning to grow some plants of the season. These are starting to emerge in pots. Studying the plants more closely today. The clover with prickles (bindi) are protective and the leaf segments amount to 3. Another plant with arrow headed shaped leaves, with an upright bunch of flower seeds, that scatter for miles, the shape is of a bunch of grapes. Strangely, my sight opened up even more to the spreading pattern amid the flourishing growth of new growth from the seeds surrounding the main plant, the multitudes amid the Equal Armed Cross. The ants form nests beneath the pavers under this unknown plant. The multiheaded Dandelions scattered around, some with aphids sucking the life out of the dandelions, which are dying in the normal cycle of life. Ants places the aphids there, to create the sweetness to feed the ant colonies. Other insects are enjoying being nourished by the aphids. The insects, even down to spiders are fodder for the frogs, that sing every evening within this space. Ants aerate the soil, and gently I am moving them on, into the soil, so the pavers will stop sinking down, unevenly, a tripping hazard for myself. The grasses will lie dormant soon, until the next winter rains a few months away. From my neighbour’s garden seeds have arrived and are flourishing, beginning to flower. The leaves are heart-shaped, the beautiful violets will be a joy to see establishing themselves amongst the mosses spread out far and wide, all holding the slope they will live upon. They hold and spread across the landscape, giving a softness to the tiny plants, with powerful staying power. I found the beauty and some signs connected to my druidry. After an unstable time, I arrived to be greeted by chaos in the backyard, knowing and learning through the heart with an understanding of a little ecology, I have taken my time to observe the beauty and significance of all there is. The colours are greens, yellows, and purples predominantly. I am inspired to use your prayers for the garden. Yours in the OIW, Pauline
