Not so much a rough go as a very rapid go. Everything has been blended and bittersweet. The cat was very old, and he died very well. He was my wife's cat; she found him many years ago, literally on her first day away from home after college. He was probably ready to go a while ago, but he hung on until last Friday night. What else happened on Friday? We closed on our house. The cat was clearly holding on just to get us through the process. Now he will be a guardian spirit for this home. My stepson took it the hardest I think, as he'd known that cat his whole life. When we texted his bio-dad to tell him about the cat's death, he responded that he had found a kitten in the street several minutes(!) earlier, and was planning on taking him home and adopting him. So now my son has a new cat, and, what is more, we all have a renewed sense of faith and gratitude in that God that watches over cats and children alike.
