Christmas in Ritual and Tradition is a great book! I've had it in my collection for years, and the whole time I've been meaning to put together something like this series, using it as one of my major sources.
As for the Feast of Misrule-- I decided the stipulation was that the 10 year old could be in charge of the house after dinner, provided he listened to a selection from the Gospel of Thomas and gave me an interpretation of it. It went well, though his mother and I were also extremely busy that night (and the night after, and today... Christmas is very much a work season this year!) and were unable to obey his more, um, arbitrary commands, such as "Stand outside in the cold for 5 minutes." Still, I think we're going to make it a regular thing-- adding in little celebrations of the saint's days this year has very much had the effect I was hoping for.
