I did run across a fun bit of trivia a while back, though, and really wish I could find the diagram again. It was simply a picture, with two people silhouettes, and on each a continuous line from the resting right hand through all four cross points, and back to the resting position of the hand. For the Catholic cross, it's kind of a cobwebby shape. For the eastern version, it makes a five-pointed star. The diagram termed it the "star of Bethlehem". Still pondering that one.
