That's great! I kind of thought I'd hear from you on this one, and that you'd say you celebrated in just that manner.

It turns out that, when my older kid arrived home, the shoes I put out on the porch had an item for everyone in the house-- rice cakes for his baby sister, kit kats for him, beef jerky for me and a jar of pickles for his mother. (It turns out that he leaves treats for both the young and young at heart in this house.) Kid said, "I can't believe it worked!"

During dinner, my wife said, "Are you sure you got everything?" I eyed her suspiciously, but went back to the porch and found nothing. Then I went inside and discovered that *someone* had put a beautiful little wooden St. Nicholas Christmas statue (or tree ornament) in one of my boots. Questioning revealed that the said ornament had been purchased on a whim when we were on vacation in South Carolina in August, long before I mentioned that I'd be writing about this on the blog or considering reviving the tradition this year.

I really think that he is actively working in the world to revive his traditional veneration.
