I could be wrong, but the way I learned it, it's not that the nous is located in the heart. It's that the heart is where you *want* it to be located. A lot of what Orthodox meditation with the Jesus prayer seeks to do is "draw down" the nous *into* the heart... which implies it's not automatically there to begin with.
